Jessica is a friend I’ve had the absolute joy to meet through my husband. But, Jessica and I have only gotten to catch up once in a great while when we visit the state my husband grew up in. In fact, I believe our longest, and perhaps only, time of really chatting was when we handed the babies to our husbands and both jumped in the kiddie pool with our bigger kids. On a hot Minnesota day, that is where it’s at.
And during that refreshing kiddie pool chat, I was so blessed to see Jessica’s heart. She has a deep desire to love people. And not just in word. But in deed. She is someone who has taken the passion the Lord has given her to love and she is making a big difference with it. She is changing the world with it, actually.
Jessica has a heart for those who others aren’t watching out for. She sees them when no one else sees them.
And she’s wildly successful.
I think that’s how it works when you have passion behind what you do.
Jessica is a Trades of Hope rep. They are a company that empowers women out of poverty. In Jessica’s own words, she works ‘to support and partner with [her] sisters around the world–allowing them to put food on their tables, to send their kids to school, to feel dignity and purpose.‘
I really love this. Because, honestly, we are all gonna purchase. But, we can purchase in such a way that we are mindful of others. We can use our resources to push forward change. We can decide that it is not ok for women to be stuck in poverty with little or no hope.
And the more that we decide to partner with other women, grab hands, and all watch out for each other’s children, the better we make this world. There is little we can do to control all that takes place around us, when current times seem so dim and dark. But, we have a choice. We can choose to find causes we believe in. We can choose to use our resources in a responsible way. And we can choose to be inspired by those who are using their life to help others.
So, that’s professional Jess. Then, there is mamma Jess.
Jess and her husband had a baby boy and then waited and waited and waited for another. As they waited, asking questions and seeking Hope, they followed the Lord as he opened up the doors for them to adopt a little girl from Colombia. And then surprisingly, as they were settled as a family of four, along came another. Another baby boy to grow their family.
All of this is inspiring to me. I know this journey couldn’t have been easy. Becoming a family of three and hoping with all your heart to again see ‘that coveted ‘+’ sign,’ as Jess wrote in an interview earlier this year. And then fixing your heart and mind on what the situation really is. That it isn’t changing, maybe ever. But keeping it real with faith, trusting in the Lord’s ways, and moving on to another plan, in this case adoption, is what Jess and her husband did after two years of hopeful waiting. And mothering and loving and growing a little girl who had not known a family during the initial years of life can bring it’s challenges, I’m sure. But Jess is leaning into the love that this little girl needs and I only had to spend the afternoon with Jess and her family to see just how loved their little girl is. Just how special she is and how wonderfully full their family is with her in it. And then how amazing that their fullness was added to with a surprise baby boy just six months ago!
And with all of this, Jess has grown her business with Trades of Hope. She has inspired so many, helped so many, and has a huge, world-changing dream.
Even though I don’t get to daily life alongside her, I’m inspired by Jessica. I think she is awesome and I think what she does is awesome.
